Help with 55/25

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been thinking about opting into the 55/25 program and am unsure about the drawbacks in doing so.  I found the following excerpt (below) but don’t know of any other tradeoffs.  If you have any other info, it would be great to hear from you.  Thanks!

27. If I opt into the 55/25 program and I retire at age 55 with 25 years of service, will I receive the same pension as someone who retires at age 55 with 30 years of service?

No, the size of your pension is based on your final average salary and your years of service so a member who has 30 years of service will retire with a larger pension.

What is not being taken into account is that the pension with 25 years of service is 10% less than the pension with 30 years. A teacher with 25 years of service receives 50% of their 3 highest years average, while a teacher with 30 years will receive 60% not taking into account any pay raises.
